NEWCASTLE ALL WEATHER FLAT RACECOURSE

Newcastle Racecourse is also known as Gosforth Park and is set in the North East of England. The course is set on the original site of the famous Blaydon Races. In 2016 it changed from a turf course to an all weather (Tapeta) course.

Key Characteristics

Newcastle is the only All Weather racecourse in the country which has a straight mile. Together with its width this very much means that it is a galloping track. The surface is Tapeta, which is the same as the Southwell and Wolverhampton surfaces. The last furlong and a half is uphill, so it is not unusual for horses that look like they are going to win easily to run out of steam and be caught on the line.
