Plumpton racecourse is situated in East Sussex quite near Brighton. It is well served by rail links from London and is therefore a good day out on the train.
Key Characteristics
Plumpton is a very small course of just over a mile, with sharp turns and undulations. It is definitely the type of course for the small nippy sort of horse, and tends to suit those horses which race prominently. However the six fences it has on each circuit are quite tough and certainly take some jumping.

- Plumpton began as a hare-coursing venue in 1876 before staging its first horse-racing meeting in 1884.
- The Queen Mother recorded her first winner at Plumpton when Super Fox won there in 1963.
- In a 1980 charity race, the future King Charles III rode Long Wharf and finished second to television presenter Derek Thompson.
- AP McCoy rode the 3,000th winner of his career at Plumpton on 9 February 2009.
