About FOLKESTONE Racecourse
Located in the North Downs at Westenhanger, Folkestone Racecourse is Kent's only horse racing venue. It is undoubtedly surrounded by breathtaking scenery, however the course itself is very basic, and could definitely do with having some money spent on it.
Key Characteristics
Folkestone is quite an undulating racecourse of nearly a mile and a half. The turns are quite easy, and the course definitely suits the handy front running type of horse. There are 7 fences per circuit.

Interesting Facts
- Folkestone Racecourse opened with a two-day meeting on 30 and 31 March 1898.
- The course stood beside the medieval Westenhanger Castle, whose history can be traced back to the estate of King Cnut.
- During the Second World War the site served as RAF Westenhanger, and 660 Squadron operated Auster aircraft from the racecourse in 1944.
- Folkestone held its final race meeting on 18 December 2012, ending 114 years of racing at the venue.
